Rise of the Phoenix

Feature Film

Directors Mark Dymond and Nic Franklin have directed Rise of the Phoenix, a short of the feature film written by Lars Arentz-Hansen (The Beach, Black Sails).

Set in present day Zimbabwe, the film follows protagonist Joseph who loses his farm after years of resisting President Mugabe’s land reform programme. The violent take-over sees his wife killed, forcing Joseph to flee to South Africa with his surrogate family in a devastating journey fraught with kidnap, murder and attacks from all sides.

Shot out of the CreativeDrive EMEA Cape Town office, the production used the beautiful and diverse locations in and around Cape Town and the Little Karoo. Nic and Mark brought the story to life to propel interest in the project, which has now secured 60% of the funding for the feature.
